Within the English Curriculum Area we aim to develop each student’s abilities through confidence with and enjoyment of the English language. English lessons at Millais are engaging and fun and prepare students for the skills they will require in their lives. We aim to give our students experiences of a variety of texts which will help them to both question and make sense of the world around them.

There are many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities and visits within the English Curriculum Area including:

• A visit to Stratford-Upon-Avon to see a Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre production
• A Shakespeare production visits the school to perform to Year 9 students to help them prepare for the National Curriculum Tests
• Performance poets and professional writers visit the school
• Regents Park Open Air Theatre
• Poetry Live Conference
• English Speaking Board
