More than half of Zambians are sixteen years old or younger, so the country's educational system faces an incredible burden. Literacy rates for youth have improved slightly in the last twenty years, however literacy among women still lags well behind that of men. The educational infrastructure is inadequate overall and there is also a great disparity between the resources that go to urban schools and the meager supplies available to rural schools.

Malaria remains the leading killer of Zambian children. An estimated million or more African children younger than five years old die from malaria every year.

By joining forces with Baraka Community Partnerships we aim to raise funds to provide for the village of Katube in the Chikumbi District of Zambia.
We have two aims:
NEW SCHOOL FOR KATUBE
We are hoping to raise enough funds to build a school for the children of Katube and the surrounding communities and have set a target
of £ 5,000. Each tutor group has been
challenged to fundraise £100 by October half term, check their progress here. There will also be an out of school uniform day and sponsored events in the PE department this summer.
Target: £5,000 Raised: £1041

MOSQUITO NETS
To prevent the children from contracting malaria our aim was to raise money for 700 mosquito nets, to cover every single sleeping space in the village. In just 6 weeks we have achieved this and would like to thank everyone for their generous donations. A representative from Baraka Community Partnerships will be distributing mosquito nets to the village of Katube in August this year (photos will be featured next term). Our focus will now be to raise money for a new school in Katube.
Target achieved: 700 mosquito nets
